The Children’s Court deals with criminal cases involving children and young people.

The court has jurisdiction to hear and determine cases related to the following:

• Criminal charges/ offending people who are under the age of 18 at the time of offending
• Traffic offending of people who are not old enough to hold a valid driver’s licence or permit
• Apprehended Violence Orders of people who are under the age of 18
• Breach of parole and the eligibility of children and young people for release on parole

Not all cases involving children are dealt with in the Children’s Court. For example- Appealing a decision made by the Children’s Court is heard by the District Court of New South Wales.
